In the heart of Brazil's coastal paradise, Guaruja, nestled along the São Paulo coast, a young boy named Haroldo Ambrosio discovered his profound connection to the ocean. He was born into a modest family, and the sea profoundly influenced Haroldo's childhood. Each day, as he watched the waves break in front of his home, he felt a deep excitement within him.
At nine years old, Haroldo's life took a new direction when he received his first surfboard. This simple gift ignited a passion within him that would shape his entire future. With each wave, he felt a sense of purpose, propelling him on a journey of exploration across the world's oceans.
Upon turning sixteen, Haroldo embarked on his first international surfing expedition to Indonesia. Spending four transformative seasons there, he fell under the ocean's power and knew he could never turn back. Over the years, his quest for the perfect wave led him to traverse the seas of 14 countries, from Indonesia to the Hawaiian Islands, spending 17 seasons perfecting his skills and immersing himself in the surf culture.
Throughout his career, Haroldo earned a reputation as one of the most fearless and skilled surfers in the world. He graced the covers of countless surfing magazines and was twice named a finalist in the prestigious XXL Big Wave Awards in Hawaii. His mastery of various surfing disciplines, including kitesurfing, foilboarding, stand-up paddling, tow-in surfing, Hawaiian canoeing, and breast surfing, sets him apart as a true pioneer of the sport.
But Haroldo's journey was about more than just conquering waves. It was about embracing life in all its raw beauty. Along the way, he learned valuable lessons about preserving the environment and respecting diverse cultures and traditions.
In addition to his surfing pursuits, Haroldo is an avid athlete with a passion for running, swimming, biking, and underwater fishing. He embraces life with a zest for adventure and a deep appreciation for the natural world.
Today, Haroldo resides in Nazaré, Portugal, where he continues to push the boundaries of big wave surfing. Alongside his loyal companion, a small dog named Amigão, whom he adopted from a local shelter four months ago, Haroldo finds joy and solace in running along the shoreline.
Haroldo's story is a testament to the power of passion, perseverance, and the relentless pursuit of one's dreams. Through his dedication to his craft and commitment to positively impacting the world, he has become more than just a surfer. He inspires us all.
As Haroldo reflects on his remarkable journey, he remains grateful for the countless opportunities that surfing has afforded him. For him, surfing is not just a sport but a way of life, a celebration of the simplicity, discipline, and joy of riding the waves. And as he looks to the future, he does so with excitement and anticipation, knowing that the best waves are still yet to come.
